I have been travelling to Poland off and on for many years as my wife’s father is Polish. He settled in Edinburgh after WWII. Susan and I both studied in Krakow for a year in 1995 and got a deeper insight into Polish culture and history. On a trip a few years ago to Gdansk I was captivated by the creative graffiti I saw on buildings. It wasn’t just ‘tags’ but images, street art. Also, on a walk through the shipyards, after entering that huge part of the city through ‘Solidarity Gate’ I was struck by the Gothic structures of old massive cranes and machinery, partly derelict, demolished and over grown by nature. Combining this imagery in photo-montage was really enjoyable.
